Large chair like stool with a deep concave seating surface which was hand carved from one piece of solid wood and used by the Oromo people of Ethiopia. This piece measures 18" inches tall by 20" wide.
The Oromo of Ethiopia are sometimes called Galla by other non-Oromo Ethiopians but it is considered a negative term to the Oromo people. The Oromo are Cushitic speakers and represent one of the largest Cushitic speaking groups inhabiting the Horn of Africa. Cushitic speakers have exisited in parts of north-eastern and eastern Africa for as long as recorded history. The Oromo are a very ancient race who have survived as a community of people for thousands of years in East Africa. They constitute the single largest ethnic group in Ethiopia.
